Default Should I switch to manual?

Hey everybody, I'm new to this forum and wanted to ask this for my first post. I recently got my first mustang. Its a 2009 v6 and came with 24k miles. I plan on having this car for a long time, Ive added a CAI and going to install a magnaflow catback dual exhaust very soon. Its an automatic transmission, but I want to switch it to a manual because I hear its more fun and also its the real way to drive, Id feel better if I knew how to drive a stick shift. So I was wondering if its worth it, I don't want to have to buy a new mustang just to switch to get manual considering I spent a good amount on mods for this car. So how much will it come out to to buy the parts and have a professional change the transmission for me? Or how much just for the parts and I can have my dad help me since hes a good mechanic?

I dont think it would be. It's not an old car, but I don't think it keeps its value very well, so it would more than likely cost around 1/4-1/2 of total worth of the car. If you don't care about depreciation and just want to know if the thrill of a manual over an automatic is worth it, then i would say yes.

I just bought my first Mustang which happens to be my first automatic. I definitely had mixed reviews (personally) but then I would think back over the last 10 years of driving a stick....and all of the traffic jams, daily rush hour commutes....and I don't feel so bad about it anymore.

On a side note, I wouldn't recommend learning to drive a manual using your Mustang.

Putting a manual in an automatic '09 v6 would be 1) expensive, and 2) difficult, and 3) damaging to the value of the car. Total expense may be the entire value of the vehicle.

If you decide to go manual, you could sell the '09 and buy an older mustang with a manual in it (I like the tr-3650 for learning over the T-45 or T-5).

not worth it, it would be cheaper to trade it for a manual equipped car. unlike old cars (like mine) its very difficult to do, so the labor is going to be extremely high. i could probably switch my c4 auto in my 67 to a t-5 5 speed in a couple weekends in my driveway with just a couple of jacks and some wrenches, call it one of the perks of an old car

I agree with the sentiments above. If you must have a stick, sell it and buy a stick equipped pony.

You'll break even or even come out a bit ahead that way, going the swap route is just going to cost $$$ (you could probably have bought a blower for the auto, by the time you pay off the swap).

Plus the T5 manual in the S197 V6 is nobody's idea of the sweetest transmission ever made. You'd be sinking huge dough into getting a so-so result at best.

Im doing a swap right now and for me its worth it (because i enjoy working on my car) and cost effective because i already have $10-12K in mods and im able to do the swap myself, my total cost is $3k with almost all new parts, after i sell off my auto stuff so im all in for $2200. in your situation a trade would be a whole lot cheaper, unless you do it yourself. your probably looking at $5500 to $8000 to have it done, for the V6 your parts will be alot easier to find at salvage yards so IMO you could easily do it for less than $2k with some good used parts.
Tranny $600
ECM $100
Clutch $400
Shifter and boots $200
Wire Harness $200
Pedal Box $85
Flywheel $70
Misc bolts $50
PATS and Tune $160

Good luck

Manual all the way. If I want a automatic I would get a Prius.
