new Zo6 vs GT

RE: new Zo6 vs GT
Yes it is an amazing thing that the Z06 is just as fun as a GT but costs less than half the price of a GT. Automobile mag did a siliar comparo and were really stumped, because the Corvette was only. 3 seconds slower around the track than the GT, but said that with price in the equation the Z06 pretty much is the better car, taken out it was still hard for them to say it bt only said that the GT was just more exotic, well yeah for 150k im sure it would be!
Im a huge Vette fan so im happy for Chevy

I respectfully disagree. I'd rather have the vette of the time than any of the fords. I'll give you the gt40, but that's a very special case. imo, the vettes have been the best cars around for the money (from the factory, I don't want cobra guys to freak out about "add a KB to it" or that crap) for the last 25-30 years.

It's hard to compare specs on the old cars. Depending on what you compare. 1/4 mile wise there were lots of cars that would beat the Vette, handling wise that number drops alot, but cars like the Boss 302 were actaully very good handling cars. I will conced though that dollar for dollar the Vette has always been a bargain for all around performance.

My biggest gripe about the GT is the engine. I like the dry sump system and I understand the block is extremely strong but still. It's pretty similar to the Cobra R, or even the new GT500. Change a few materials, add in a dry-sump oil system, blah blah.... I'm more intrigued by the 3 valve SOHC heads on the new GT.
On the otherhand, the mid-engine, all aluminum subframe, design of the GT is beautiful and taken straight from racing, updated with the latest advancements and modified to be a production vehicle.
They really went above and beyond this time for the Z06. It's a production car based on the racing version of the original version of the production car. They designed it with speed, handling, breaking, all of the other similar specifications in mind. It's truely a performance vehicle instead of a sporty car. They used the latest materials and went with the known model (large displacement, high compression, naturally aspirated, Pushrod power). And took it to an extreme. With that inmind, it's still only a super-version of the original car and not a whole new car. However, it's not exactly representative of how all vettes do, or have performed. They're definitly not all super cars.
