Is there any word on whether or not fords svt unit will start producing standard Cobra's in the near-future? I'm looking to buy a new Mustang in the next few years, but it seems everywhere I go someone's got a new Mustang GT. I would love to spend my money on something a bit more special... such as a standard Cobra on the new style of Mustang... only WITHOUT the Shelby name and price tag. I sure hope Ford will be rollin' out a few (say... 08 hopefully?) Mustang Cobra's with a mid-30's price tag (2004 Cobra's base price was about 35 g's, wasn't it?). Thanks.

03 and 04s were mid 30ks. There is no plans right now for a Cobra without shelby's name on it. The GT500 will only be $40k once the markup is done.

2004 Cobra base price was mid $30K, and 2007 Shelby Cobra base price is to be around $40K. You wont get anything more special than a Shelby with a 450+ hp 5.4 for only an extra $5K base price. Of course the dealer mark-up is what is going to kill the average Joe from ownership, but another mid $30K Cobra would be nice for the rest of us not fortunate enough to have the cash or the strings to get the ultimate Mustang... I dont think anyone will touch a Shelby for under $45K once they are released.

I completely agree with you trevman. I personally am in love with every aspect of the Shelby... every aspect but that price tag after the dealer mark-up. I guess I will just be one of many who hopes Ford brings out the regular Cobras... as regular as a Cobra can get that is...
