Contemplating Mustang as a Project Car
Hi Everyone!
I signed up to get a bit more info about if the Mustang would make a good project car for me. I'm graduating college in may, and want to make a fast but reliable car. I'm currently driving an 89 Ford Probe GT turbo with a few toys, but I would like something faster and RWD.
So maybe I'll just say what I'm thinking about doing and find out if this is a feasible project. Since I live in colorado and the altitude kills NA cars, I'm thinking about a twin (or quad) turbocharged mustang V8. Naturally, this would take time and lots of money. Just wondering if this would be worthwile, and which cars/engines would be the best to start with.

twin turbo's would be cheap and easy... but time consuming...
theirs many places to find write-ups for turbo'd foxes... another forums somewhere (although not as cool as us ) they could probably help you find all the parts you need at a junkyard off other cars like turbo tbirds and svo's - those lil turbo's work great for TT's on a 5.0

Definitely get a Mustang. I would recommend a fox-body style only because those performance parts are a dime a dozen - very easy to find everywhere! That engine's been out forever! Welcome!

So nobody here has turbo'ed a V8 Mustang? (As a side note, the little IHI's on the T-Bird are barely big enough for my car. No way I'd bother putting them on a 5.0) Thanks for the info anyways.
Cheers,
Matt

RE: Contemplating Mustang as a Project Car
I'm graduating college in May, so I won't be able to do anything but research until then. After that, I probably would put about $5k-$7k a year into it for the next few years.
My one concern about about the Fox mustangs is that I read that their engines tend to break when you add boost. But not until about 500hp. (Fox's are the 5.0, right?) What engines cope well with boost? I assume any engine would need forged/billet internals, but I don't want to bother if the block itself is weak.
