I would not say this is a common problemwith cars.....I used to live ina townhouse that had a VERY STEEP driveway and I HAD to use my parking brake. I owned a 1999 Mustang, 1998 Ford Explorer Sport and a 2000 VW Passat (wifes car), all vehicles were 5 speeds. I lived at the town house for approximately 3 years and never had a problem with the emergency break freezing.Honestly, I think there isa poor design flawwith (2005 - 2008) mustang e-brake system. When I called the dealership to explain that my e-brake was froze, he said "I just received 2 calls earlier today with the same issue." LOL

I'm pretty sure this is a problem on any car in the winter, unless the entire cable is sealed because water finds its way into anything not sealed (and sometimes even then...) My dad laughed when I told him this was happening all winter to me because he's been there when he was younger and drove manual transmission vehicles and he told me to just put it in first and leave the brake off. Fortunately I have a flat piece of driveway to park on to really get away with that. I just kept cycling the parking brake to loosen it up and it freed itself every time after a minute or two of driving and braking and pulling the parking brake up and letting it down all the while. It was annoying though.

Hmmm...I used my e-brake all winter long, inside or outside, and never had a problem. I live in PA and we get PLENTY of cold, snow, freezing rain etc.
