Find the picture you want and upload it to imageshack.us
Once it has uploaded copy the 'Direct link to image" at the bottom of the page.
Paist that link in your profile where it says signature and put [img] before the link and [/img] after the link

thanks for the help. i use photobucket. i am trying to add a pic to my uncles sig and was following what the how to said but that did not work someone needs to update that. it tells you to use the URL tag which I thought was kindda weird and to write the whole word image but I got it to work.
