A new...old guy with a '66 convertible
Hi and thanks for a great site, with a lot of very knowledgeable people.
Just bought a '66 convertible to mess around with. Kind of a "resto-mod" long term toy/project. Something with the civility of a car from the '90s with the style and brutality of the '60s. Wanted an '05 convertible, but couldn't get over the sticker shock.
I got into hot-rodding in the 70's while in the High School autoshop program. Back then we were dropping V8's into anything small we could find. The funnest "over powered skate board" was a Ford Courier we dropped a 302/C4 combo into. We wanted a "Vega-Eater" and got it.
Since then I've been a dealership tech, service manager, trainer and now work for a factory in industrial equipment.
The car is a 6 cylinder 3 speed plain Jane rag top, that's a good "10 footer". It's been an Oakland Bay area car all it's life, even born in San Jose. As time permits it will end up with A/C, T-5, 408 on TBI, double wishbone coil over (aka Mustang II front suspension), 4 wheel power disk, boxed and subframed, rear independent suspension, cruise control, Nav/Audio, Pony & GT options...not to big a list.
In the mean time it's fun to cruise around the backroads with.
Without further ado here it is:
