96-98 Cobra/SVT go or no-go?
Hi there, Newbie to this forum but not to Stangs. I owned a 95 LX for 9 years, best car I ever had. Now I'm looking at buying a 96-98 Cobra/SVT 5 speeds, coupe or vert.
Why these years, because I love the shape and would like to have the 4.6 rather than the 5.0, no offense the 5.0 lovers out there.
What should I be looking for before buying? Any common problem in these years?
I just saw a 96 vert in N-Dakota for $4k.
Thank you all for your comments.

06 is the first and only stang i've owned so don't know much about any common problems of that model year. I'm sure you'll find a lot of comments on MF though> Welcome and good luck on your purchase

I'd say the normal wear and tear. Check the seats for rips, engine compartment for any fluids that could be dripping or sprayed across the fire wall. Test drive it of course and take not on how the clutch feels and how responsive the engine is. If it seems tired and racked with miles I'd pass probably.

you sir are a moron, a stock 96 cobra can run high 13s, look @ the numbers in ur sig... tell me if there slow...
and OP fyi all cobras are manual, i love my 96. The GTs are slow but the DOHC 32 v Cobras are quick little cars, 4k is a damn good price, run an autotrader search you probably won't find any near that, a nice set of gears and exahust+ K+N drop in filter and you got yourself a fun street car, i went with 4.10s and i recommend them, the gas milage isn't as bad as you would think and it makes it feel like a whole new car.
Also the verts are worth more... if the top goes down the price goes up.
Swat please don't speak if you have no idea what you are speaking about, go back to CF or thirdgens.net..

Thanks for your reply SVT. So all SVT's are manual, ok good to know. On autotrader you say, this is exactly where I spotted that one. Looks to good to be true. Some SVT vert that I saw don't seem to have rear seats (call me dumb I don't care), is it an add-on?

and as for the harshness to swat, he frequents another section of this forum where he does nothing but talk bs, 1 of those cars in his sig isn't even his and he didn't run the time he just pulled it from what its "supposed to run" Hes always like oh i got a chevy beware of the bowtie, and its not fast by any means of the word.
