Just picked up a new Mustang Convertible
About four hours ago, I took possession of a new red 2005 5-speed convertible.
My previous car was a Honda S2000, also in red, that I was really attached to. I owned it for almost five years, then smashed it into a tree, totalling it. Even though the S2000 was a lot of fun to drive, I didn't really want another one. (I can ride one of my Ducatis when I want to go fast.) I did have to have a convertible though. I was considering maybe a Chrysler Sebring or a Miata, but didn't feel the strong desire for either that I had felt when I bought the Honda.
Then I found out that the Mustang would have a convertible available and that seemed like a good candidate. They've been kind of hard to find in Northern California lately, but on a whim I drove by the Ford dealer last Saturday to see if I could look at one up close, and the salesman practically forced me to take a test drive. Ford seems to have done just about everything right with this car, and I knew I would be happy with it. My wife wanted to check out all of the candidates before making a choice, so we were planning to go find some Sebrings and Miatas to test, but we went to the Ford dealer first. After about an hour of negotiating away the $3000 markup, we signed up to buy the car. Then we had about another hour of trying to resist the extended warrantee, prepaid service, paint protection, alarm system, and LoJack. They dropped the price enough on the first two that I gave in and purchased the extra coverage.
Anyway, the car only has about 30 miles on it right now, but I expect to enjoy it. I'll be hanging around this forum to see what else I can learn about the car.
I already posted elsewhere, but if any of you know where I can get a good fitting cloth car cover for it, please let me know.

RE: Just picked up a new Mustang Convertible
Okay, now I'm trying to figure out how to get my avatar to show up.
And, even though I always click "Notify me via e-mail when someone replies", I have not received a notification yet. Since I received an e-mail for joining, I'm assuming the e-mail address is correct.

RE: Just picked up a new Mustang Convertible
By the way, I haven't even owned the car a week and I've already gotten quite a few nice complements on it. I was waiting for my daughter outside the local grocery store on Saturday and a woman came up to me and said how nice she thought the car looked. I don't remember that happening with the S2000.
I guess Mustang convertibles really do look good in red. I wasn't even planning to buy one, but seeing how good it looks, plus a test drive had me signing the papers right away.
I'm really enjoying this car.
