Default new guy wanting to buy a mustang

Hello. So I am in the market for a mustang. Preferably early 2000s but I have some questions.

My buddy has a 97 z28 camaro. LT1. Six speed. Mild head work, cammed, full boltons, 12 bolt rear with 4:10 gears. Anyway he is getting high 11s at 116-117mph. If I buy a mustang what would it take for me to run with him N/A? I know the 03 cobras are fast but the price you gotta pay is nuts and he still beats those and has less money in his car.

What would be my best route? GT, Mach 1? What kind of power gains from cam and bolt ons would I see and maybe some head work?

Hi, welcome. If you want a good reliable car buy a stang. that also fast .Your buddy start out with a bigger engine. 350 v/s 289. Also Cobra are rare, hence the higher price tag. IMO go for the Cobra or Mach 1 if you can afford it.Lots of great stang's available to you. Good luck.

Welcome! With some gears, exhaust and some good tires in a mach 1 you can easily get into the 12s. A full bolt on mach can get into the 11s being na

either car can get you there with some work....4 valve will get you there for less cash...the 03 cobra is supercharged..but you say you want to go n.a.so that would be out anyway..if he raced an 03 with a kenne bell blower on it i dont think he would win.
