Default New Guy! w/ clutch problem

Hey everyone, I recently bought an 01 GT as my first car (Love it!). However, when I got it, the stage 1 clutch that was in it was going out so I decided it needed a replacement. I went with the Spec Stage 1 to replace it. It feels great on the pedal but if I ever get above around 1400rpm when initially accelerating from a stop, I can hear the clutch slip and it smells extremely bad after. I've had the clutch installed for a good 7 months now driving it every day and it still does it. Anybody have any ideas about what would cause this? The clutch linkage was also changed by the previous owner so it has a much shorter pedal depression than stock. I'm not sure if that could be a cause of the problem? I'm 17, and love cars, Esspecially Mustangs, but I'll be completely honest, I have just a basic understanding of all the mechanics but eager to learn! So any help or ideas are greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forum, but you may get more responses if you post this question in the appropriate tech forum for your year car. Someone will be glad to help. Good luck

Welcome to the boards!

I have a couple of thoughts...

Based on your age, you may not be a very "seasoned" driver behind the wheel of a manual transmission. I am wondering if you followed the clutch break in procedures properly?

Another thing to consider is that the shop that installed it did not align it properly. Do you hear a lot of chatter or feel pedal shudder?

Thanks for the response, I never get any shutter through the pedal, and although I am 17, I can operate the clutch smoothly off of every stop (except for that little hiccup everyone gets every once in a while). My dad said I'm very good with it. Lastly, I was told that for the first few hundred miles on a new clutch, to take it easy, with no dumping it from a start, or aggressive gear changes. So... I'm not positive that's proper procedure but that's what I was told. Thanks again with the response. I guess there's a good chance it good be the alignment is off.

Sounds like to me that clutch isn't seated properly for it to be slipping. Or you completely fried it somehow.
