Hello all. I have been searching for a decent used convertible and think I may settle on a 2001 with about 86,000 miles. I had it checked out at a dealer and it needs some work on the top and a few other items, but it is in good shape.
I was curious if anyone had any input/feedback on why I should NOT buy this classic.
It's the base 2001 convertible with leather and TRC/ABS.

Hello - their is a hydraulics leak in the top, which is estimated at around $1,300 to fix. Some loose ball joints and a trans pan seal leak.
Well, thats better than replacing the vinyl.
Check with MPS Auto Salvage and see if they have a motor for the top. If you take the truck panels out of the car, the motor is super easy to access.
Check the condition of the top closed too. A lot of times the edges where it rubs going up and down will be worn or cracked. Keep that $2000.00 replacement vinyl in the back of your head for price negotiation if it looks like it will need replacing.

One more question - I am also looking at a 1999 GT Convertible with 42,000 miles. Dealer checked it out and it has very few issues. My only concern is that while it has ABS, it does not have traction control. I have never driven a real wheel drive and this is going to be my first Mustang - any concerns with NOT having Traction control?
Welcome to the forum. And your right foot is a fine traction control option.
