Default Exhaust issues

I have a 01 bullitt been having some issues with I'm guessing exhaust. My car Is losing power and I can smell exhaust gases. I've come to the conclusion it could be a clogged catalyic converter but also was told it could be a bad o2 senser. Not sure what to think. It sputers and loses and gains power when driven. Please I need some help figuring out the issue

Welcome to the forum, nice looking Mustang.

I'd pull codes first to see if any are thrown, that may help point you in the right direction.

I'd also start a new thread in the appropriate Tech section, the one specific to your year Mustang. Just for the reason there's alot more members in that section that could help.

Good luck

Checking your cats and o2 sensor isn't a bad idea. Also try checking your manifolds to see if there not on properly or leaking. Not a bad idea to clean your mass air flow senior either. Loss of power could be bad spark plugs or possibly a bad fuel filter. Both easy and cheap fixes. I've been having the same problem with my 2004 model and haven't quite figured it out yet. Not saying these are the problems but it wouldn't hurt to check it out. Hope this helps lol

even the worst o2 sensors on your car wont cause loss of power or sputtering, have a shop do a back pressure test, if it fails swap in an off road , or catted x pipe and you will be back in business. if you go with an off road setup you will want to use this trick to prevent the CEL from coming on for the missing cats>>>>>>http://www.evolutionm.net/forums/evo...cel-light.html yes its from a mitsu forum, but the dorman part number and procedure are the same
