I just purchased a 1998 Ford Mustang GT white convertible for a fun second car. I love cars especially the mustang I've owned one before back in 2001 it was a GT coupe it was the color new green like a sprite can, loved it but had to give it up do to not having the money to keep it on the road like I wanted too. Fast forward to now I found one that was for sale in my current neighborhood for sale which is the one I purchased for $1800 it has 170K miles on it.It does have a rebuilt automatic transmission and new brakes,it's in pretty good shape body wise just needs a new rear window for the convertible top, 4 new tires, wipers, it also runs like a champ. I'm taking it to get a state inspection done. I looked over the car with a fine tooth comb and have a concern, there is oil in the overfill tank for antifreeze(looks like a chocolate milkshake) (oil is clean no white junk on dipstick, as well transmission fluid looks fresh) should I be worried about that other than a engine light which I have a code reader saying it's a P1131 the car runs very good. Other than that is there any items that should be addressed when I take it in for it's required state PA inspection. All in all it's a very solid car for it's age and mileage.

Welcome to the forum and congrats on that sharp looking '98 very.

Oil or dark sludge in the coolant reservoir tank usually means you have a bad head gasket. Or it could mean just a lack of maintenance at one time. Being a new car to you, I'd investigate alittle more. Maybe the head gasket was replaced already by a previous owner and it's just residual leftover gunk.

Ended up being a bad oil cooler, they said everything else was in good shape and just pass PA inspection so should be on the road soon.
