Alex, What about a reliable car that can be paid for without taking out a loan? College is tough enough without having to worry about working enough hours to pay a monthly payment, the addition of collision insurance over basic liability and gas.
Having multiple autos is a big pill to swollow financially at any time in your life. (For MOST middle income people) Let alone do it while you're in school. I had to wait until I was mid 40's before I felt comfortable having a car that I could classify as a pleasure car to drive on nice days only. Many of my cars, before the Mustang, were nice, but had to be daily drivers.
My point is, it's not the end of the world if you can't get a DD or if you have to drive the Mustang. School should be your priority right now. If you concentrate and work hard enough now, your rewards later in life, will come.
Maybe look into car pooling with a student heading your way on the weekend to relieve some of the burden on your Mom or Dad. Or dare I say bus or train.

(stepping off soap box......)
I couldnt have said it better myself. I purchased my car when it was only 2 or 3 years old and i took out a huge loan and I was burdned with the monthly payments and insurance.. I was forced to work 2 jobs all threw college which dramatically impacted my grades. Im still young (26) but i have my own house and i can pick and choose what car i want to drive each day because i have a few to choose from. Moral of the story is, there is always time in the future. I would stick with an affordable average car you can buy outright.

Got to get the tranny fluid flushed and replaced at Metro Ford Saturday. This is an expensive March for me, $600 insurance plus the $150 flush. Alex, I'd listen to Nick. Seems like he knows what he's talking about Luckily my accountant neighbor needs my tax-doing services again so I'll be able to make this all back in due time.
Oh, and I've got a little date tomorrow myself. Stay tuned...
