I have worked for everything I have. I worked two jobs in high school just to make the payment and insurance on a saturn. I think its better to work for what you get cuz you will definitely respect it more, and you wont expect everything to always be given to you.

But It'd still be nice to get free stuff....

I work 2 jobs now, 3 over the Summer... Not aimed at anyone here or anyone specific for that matter (hence the "rant alert" warning)

and...

Quote:
I drove it until the transmission went out. He then spent thousands on it to get the motor rebuilt and tranny fixed and to keep it running. He then spent thousands more to replace the transmission after it went. After spending 2,000 on the last tranny that went he finally said "no more" He then helped me get a loan and my own car payments. lol

Eh, it's alright, I'll just punch the next person in the face who talks about my automatic mustang (YES, I WILL TRAVEL)

I guess i'm kind of between the two groups on this one, I paid 3k towards my 9k first car. I got my mustang in march and my parents are paying my payments and insurance until I graduate. They have always said they wanted me to graduate college without any debt so when my car died they agreed to make payments until I graduate. My mods are out of my own pocket (currently interning) and I kinda have to keep them on the DL so it doesn't **** off the parents about the whole voiding the warranty thing

Well...Just been talking to some people and felt like I had to rant... Everyone's car is oing faster and faster because THEIR PARENTS BOUGHT IT FOR THEM!!! (Not meant towards 2K1GT )

Seriously, if I didn't have car payments I could have TT'ed my car and done forged internals, but I have to make car payments

Like a kid at another HS parents bought him an '04 Z06... And 2 of the ppl I know have 12 sec. stangs in HS b/c they could spend all of their money on mods....

FVCK!!!!!!
I didn't read the thread yet because before I do I just want to say so f**cking what. Act better then them, try harder then them and get them to the track so you can say, "you only beat me by one second and laugh at their spoiled a$$es.....
....then get their girlfriend drunk and charm the shizz out of them until they do the doughnut dance with you and rub it in their rich a$$ face.

HRnB, How to get even 101 and still look like a champ...
..Now available in paper back. [sm=smiley4.gif]

Eh, I worked for it all with some help. Buy a 2K vehicle? Was granted a loan from the Bank of Dad basically. It was paid back in full. (Superb interest rates though) I liked that approach. Got okay vehicles for a 16 y/o. (safe, somewhat reliable...) and learned that loans suck. However, learned to pay them back also.

Take care,
Ceyko

So it is one thing for parents to help out, but I think Acer was talking about the fact that those kids have lots of money to spend that they earned and their parents buy them expensive cars. Those kids parents could have bought them a crappy 2k car and been done with it instead of expensive performance cars.

I for one am lucky. My dad bought me my Mustang.... but I am paying for college right now (In cash). No loans for me!

I can say this, when my boys are ready for a car I will ensure they have something nice - they may pay for part of the car or work it off though - they will have to earn it, either through doing well in school or working in some way for it - but either way I know my kids won't be "spoiled" but I will ensure, to the best of my ability, they have everything I never had growing up - that's every parents dream I would think. I didn't care much for kids that got everything they wanted growing up, but you know if my mom coulda handed me whatever I wanted I woulda taken it. If anyone says otherwise they'd be lying.

Exactly. I was thinking the same thing but didn't feel like typing it.

[sm=smiley36.gif] HEY!!!!! you dirty fugger Booze. How did you manage to slip that shot in there? [sm=smiley36.gif]

Back on topic........

My parents helped me get my first car because I worked really hard and didn't have any money. We lived WAY out in the country and it was the only way to get around (like...to go to work).

I still didn't have money for mods. I was lucky if I could keep the $hitbox running.

I'm nearly 36 now and have been at the same job for 12 years.

I am finally getting enough money together to do some mods to my GT.

It doesn't make me bitter. I am happy for some of you guys who can have such nice cars at such a young age and afford more more mods than me.

Fuggers. LOL.

said very well.. I too was a very poor person in school. Up until I turned 15 I had all my sisters hand me downs. I actually started working (under the table) when I was 12 and was hired there when I turned 15. I was never given a car because my mom didnt have the money and he car was always broke anyways. lol....So needless to say, like joe said... I will make sure my kids have everything I never had!

i hear this all the time "must be nice mommy and daddy pay for everything". truth is i have paid for everything (not saying i didn't have help along the way) i am 24, i have a wife that stays home and raises our 2 children.
we bought our house when i was 21. i own a 95gt (custom), 01 yukon (lifted), 02 honda f4i, and 94 s-10 (custom).
i started working when i was 15 and got a good job at 20. since i am young most people assume my parents pay for everything, when in fact all you have to do is work hard and never give up.

depends on the person i guess.

for me I would much rather beef up my V6 than have a GT and line the Insurance Companies pockets..

so the 3 grand the insurance company would have gotten I soaked it intoo my V6 stang..

am i dumb? i dont think so...

i got no problem with people who were handed everything. if i was well-er off, i would do the same for my kid. i grew up poor as dirt, but i didnt let that stop me from getting what i wanted. if someone gets a car from their parents i say good. wish i wouldve gotten handed something. on a side note, it does get rough paying for my life style sometimes.

alright.... JOE i agree with you and i have to say that is exactly what im trying to say. i just get the feeling of hmmm what u call it?? fakeness sometimes when people say... i worked for everything i got and people who dont are spoiled.... ofcourse ud like to receive cool stuff from parents...wtf! . If u have good parents that suport you and give you your needs and wants BUT...big BUT only if u make an effort or you work for it... like joe said.. doin well in school or somethin esle....or it could be just a b-day or hoilday gift... who wasnt poor? I personaly think there are very few people who go through life without being poor at some periods of time... my family had ups and downs too and when we were up wed enjoy it and buy neccessary stuff first then wed talk about fun. now im a bit older than before so i do take care of all the bills that i can afford. all my car payemnts is on me. but the thing i enjoy about having a faimlly is if somethin happends and u cant come up with the money....someones got ur back. thats all.
