Ok so awd is not a good plan, what about putting a 302 in the middle, would you just run a REALLY short driveshaft?

You mean putting the engine farther back? That's likely. Use the 4.6L Continental front end and match it to the rear of your Mustang under the rear deck.

Or splice in a FWD setup to the front of your Mustang and run the driveshaft to the rear axle. Gear ratios would be a b!tch to match up, though. You'd have to play with tire diameters to get everything just right.

thoughts,

would there be enough room to shove the engine and trans in and sit in front of it in a seat with some kinda firewall made?

and would it have massive understeer?

I actually had a bad idea using one of these a few years ago, its FWD but the engine is sitting front to back

Steal the AWD from one of those dodge magnums.

Or just put the Mustang body on a 4x4 chassis.

BUMP to the top of OT

so would a 302 fit dently in the middle of a fox? I need an idea before I go outside with a cherry picker and set an engine and tranny in the shell

If you take out the back seat, yes. Should be enough room under the rear package shelf. May as well convert to IRS while you're at it to keep the driveshaft angles tame. Grab the setup from a Vette and you'll get the transmission, too.
