Default Retrieving infos from a hard drive...

My computer took a crap and I have a bunch of pictures stored in it.
What's involved in gettingmy documents out? Or is it impossible?

I spilled beer all over it and it's all shorted now...

I know you guys are major Geeks and all, maybe you can give me some feed back.
Thanks.

unplug the drive

buy an ide or a sata to usb adapter from your local radioscraps or staples or best buy or circuit city or whatever

plug it into another computer

see if it reconizes it

if not, google hdd recovery software

It should be possible, just make sure its dry first, and you need to find an actualy geek who can copy the files off the drive. or if the drive is safe you could just hook it up into another computer. but im not a geek so i wouldnt know.

Don't you worry. It wasn't Chimay stuff, just cheap Foster, so I'm not mad.
I bumped my computer stand while getting up and the beer was all over.

The screen says "read failure on internal hard drive"
"No bootable devices--strike F1 to retry boot, F2 for setup utility"

When I press F1 it keep saying what I just mentioned with a soundind beep[&:].
The F2 gives me a screen that I don't understand and to get out of it, I have to turn the damn thing off and turn it back on.[8D]

Hard disk drives are sealed via vacuum meaning neither air nor beer will effect the platters. If the drive is not soaked in beer, you can plug it into a new PC and get your data. If not the platters will need to be transplanted into a new drive in a clean room. This is not cheap.

Worst case.. 2,500.
Best Case.. free once you plug the drive into a new PC.

My Advice. Try plugging it into a new PC, if it doesn't work, live and learn, buy a backup USB drive (Hard drive or USB thumb drive (60 bucks)).

Good luck and feel free to PM me w/questions.

E.
