There is an absolutely horrendous(sp?) monument to the Black Death in Vienna Austria. I must have walked around that thing for an hour studying it.
It is a 360 degree sculpture with, I don't know, a couple of dozen writhing, wretched figures in various states of agony. Some reaching out to God, some crumpled and lifeless, others carrying corpses. It is on top of one of many mass graves caused by the plague.
For us is almost unfathomable that such a time existed. Imagine that. Every third person in the world dead and gone.
