Best friend in HS had a 70 Torino GT 4spd Hurst with a bench seat......still one of the fastest cars I've been in........thought you would appreciate that Torino
So they don't list the hp at the crank? What is really the big deal.
nononono
gross hp is the horsepower at the crank of the engine itself, with nothing running off of it like a/c, power steering, water pump, all that jazz
just the engine
net hp is the hp at the crank as the engine configured and sold, and includes the loss from things like the A/C, power steering, water pump, etc
prior to 1972, most hp ratings were gross horsepower, and after 1972 they are given as the net horsepower
in 1971, the Chrysler 426 hemi had a 425 gross hp and 350 net hp
also, in 2005, there is such a thing a SAE certified horsepower, which uses an entirely different method of calculation and is voluntary, but more accurate. some cars will measure with higher readings, and some will measure with lower readings
its why the ls7 was designed for 500 hp but has 505 certified hp

I see. Wasn't insurance cost one of the reasons they rated the cars net hp after 1971?
The 74 mustang was a turd. But then so was everything else after about 73. GM in particular had some real dog 350s they put in the Camaro circa mid 1970s. Think 150hp in a 350ci engine.
Disgusting I know. If you were into muscle cars back in the late sixties and early seventies I'm sure you could find very few reasons to own one of the newer ones at that point. Probably VERY disappointing.
