Please explain. Between 1970 and 1971 there were no changes made to the hemi motor. The 400 6 pack had a small drop in compression, from 10.5 to 10.3. A .3 compression drop is not going to make a motor into a dog.

I wasn't alive back then, but I have yet to see ONE 1971 Hemi with any sort of pollution controls like a smog pump, cats, etc.......

The air quality control act wasn't even SIGNED until 1971.

How many hemis were made? 600? A true exception. But the cars were heavier. And they were belt driving pollution pumps and breathing through snorkels among other crap.
A .3 compression ratio drop is still a drop. Down is down. What racer looking for an edge is going to give up power for that "New Car Smell?"
The apex had been reached in 1970. The 1970 cars were faster than the 1971 cars. Therefore from 1971 onwards they were DOGS.

Well you're doing better than me. I don't think I've ever seen a 1971 Hemi.

Didn't California start their pollution controls in 1966? National standards in 1968?

You didn't live through it, I did. It was a very long time ago so things have somewhat blurred. Maybe 1971 Chryslers were the best. Maybe it was the '72s that were DOGS. '73s? '74s?
I do know that the death rattles started in 1971 and it was all over by '74. And punctuated by those stupid 5mph bumpers. By 1974 he government had succeeded in making cars slow and ugly.

1971 is generally seen as the end, with a few hold outs. 1970 was essentially the banner year, but for the most part 1971 wasn't like some huge giant drop off in power. 1972 is when it got REALLY bad.

The stupid bumper is where I draw the line. I hate how those things looked. Ruined Camaros, Firebirds, and Vettes. Badly.

Perhaps the sources listed as internet may leave something to be desired, but the sources listed as mags might be more reliable. I know mags don't have the best drives, but it's better than nothing. If a muscle car tested a 1970 Challenger with a 426 Hemi and did 0-60 in 5.7 and the 1/4 mile in 13.9, I don't think it's that far off? Many of us have never driven a stock 60-70 muscle car, so how do we know really how fast it is? Seems like some people are getting their panties in bunch because some of the mustang information was off.
