Been reading about jailbreaking iphone, anyone do it? really worth it? what are the consequences of doing it? What is the best installer to use?
nah man its not worth it. First of all if you do Jail Break it and **** it up I am sure you will lose all warranty and support from your cell provider. In fact I bet it says something about that when you sign a contract specifically for an Iphone
Second of all most apps are $0.99 and alot of them are kick ass and worth the cost. Plus it supports amateur programmers and I think alot of them deserve it.
Third....if you are worried about paying for a **** ass program you can always get your money back and you still get to keep the app. I have done it a few times and Apple has never questioned me
I will be one to completely disagree with Erdrick. I jailbroke my iPod Touch for the first time about 2 weeks ago and can't believe it took me this long to do it.
YOU CANT BRICK YOUR IPHONE! Don't let anyone tell you that you can. It simply will not happen.
Yes it will void your warranty, but guess what, all you have to do is restore it back to stock if you ever really need to bring it in to get anything fixed.
Being able to theme, change the lock screen, etc., etc. is the best thing in the world.
And lastly, the third party apps really are awesome. I now have copy and paste functionality, 5 icon dock, tap to unlock, NES, Gameboy, Genesis, PS1 emulators, along with plenty of other stuff not offered in the app store. And yes, they are all free.
i have heard that some of the apps wont work with jailbroken phones, but as 2k1gt said you can restore it back to factory specs. And it seems that the jailbreaking software seems to be getting better as compared to a year ago, didnt seem worth it at all then.
I have jailbroken my iphone 2G for T-mobile
Absolutely loved it, there are so many things (which are free by the way) to do to your phone. There is always new apps coming out here and there, as often as everyday at times. The downside is that you do lose your warranty. Whose your provider? If you have AT&T, and still have a warranty, i'd wait a little bit.
ya i still have the warrenty, plus the new gen iphone is supposed to come out mid 2009, duno how that will affect my decision or not but a new software version will be coming out that will have sms texting sideways and some other things.
