In the scenario you put forth I'd bet the ranch on the bear. Get that bear treading water or having to swim and he should expect to die a most bloody, torque-biting death...
Not to jack the thread but to propose a more realistic argument...although they reside in completely different area codes, I'd like to see a full grown male lion pitted against a grizzly bear. That my friends would take some time. I'd go with the sheer weight advantage on this one even though my wallet goes with claws and blood spilled. The grizzly would win and walk away the initial victor but may die later from his injuries inflicted by the claws of the 400lb cat. The average healthy grizzly weighs between 600-1000lbs. Raw powah baby...

there was a show on some channel (discover? spike maybe?) that did a COMPUTER GENERATED fight between a tiger and a bear, and the bear dun smok'd teh kitteh because of its weight and it's overall striking force, which was much greater than the tiger.

but in reality, a tiger would destroy a lion... tigers are like ****ing ninjas...lion has to have 3 feet planted on the ground, the tiger can stand on 2 and get at the lions head, even jumping and getting all 4 legs off the ground...lion only has a chance if its bigger than the tiger and can over power it
