Thumbs up 1976 Chevrolet Truck

It's my dad's.. today he offered to sell it to me.. i'll have to give him time to think about that though.. he bought it new at the end of 1975 they just came back with the side step bed and he wanted it.. its Orange, from the factory, with white pin stripes.. it's this model:

http://www.chooseyouritem.com/classi...500/63649.html

it has a 400 short block in it.. he says the engine is good but needs a new carburator.. it needs a lot of work.. mostly body and some interior.. needs new paint for sure and probably a new front fenders have they have rusted through along the bottoms..

I'd love to restore it to it's orginal condition.. it's lifted.. he took it hunting for years.. broke it in half one year wenching his elk up with it (elk weighed around 1000lbs, got it archery hunting)

its a 5/8th ton he said.. although they called it a half-ton.. hmm dunno what else to see but will be a lot of work but I want my dad to see it returned to it's orginal glory.. I'll have to post pics..

It's still pretty much all original (new engine) has a wooden bed that needs replaced.. basically he needs everything redone.. definetly needs a new speedometer cable..

this one looks like the rear of it:

http://www.chooseyouritem.com/classi...p.1.2.Ton.html

another side profile:

http://www.chooseyouritem.com/classi...et.Pickup.html

his came with a 400 in it.. even says 400 in the grill.. all these ahve 350s in them

before the truck he had a yellow 1969 camaro 350 SS that he bought brand new.. wish he still had that too

Accidently posted this in s197 teeekkkk... and mods still haven't moved it.. so reposting..

Those are nice trucks. Hell yeah you should buy it. That's the kind of thing you and your dad could rebuild, then pass on to your kid.

funny thing is.. even though he is retired he is too busy to work on it.. (he has other things he'd rather do) and i might be getting a job that will move me 3 hours away.. so i'll work on it there (or pay people to do some of the stuff for me)

I used to work with a guy who had one exactly like that. Man that would be a real head turner if you do it up right. What's he want for it?

he didn't say.. price doesn't really matter.. and he would only sell it to me.. keep it in the family, otherwise he would be buried in it just figured i'd show it.. see what people thought about restoring it.. maybe ask for where i should get advice on restoring it.. we have slim pickings up here in MT and most of the people i meet are ford fanbois

Place i had my gears installed specializes in ford trucks.. they were talking about doing those offroad mud bog stuff and I said oh yeah.. my dad's truck does really well at that sort of thing, my bro has taken it out.. they got disgusted when i told them it was a '76 chevy it also needs a new tail gate.. its messed up pretty bad.. I figure he should take somewhere around 3 or 4k for it.. maybe as low as 2k.. dunno..if he wants more than 4k i wont buy it

Nice, one of my friends has a 74 without the side step bed. 5inch drop all around. it sits in primer coat only. It has a 383 stroker being rebuilt. Not sure if it's the big 10 model or not.

you come across as far too much of a car noob

unless you plan on shipping it out to others to do the work, then go for it
