Default Mossberg 500 vs Remington 870 Express

Within the week Im going to be purchasing my first shotgun. This will be mainly home defence and possbily some light skeet shooting. I can pick up a mossberg 500 at the local walmart here in Fl for 200 bucks or a remington 870 express for around 300 bucks. From what I understand the remington express is like a cheap version of an 870 wingmaster....which would you buy?

You can't go wrong with either one. For really fun home defense, cut the barrel to 18.25" and get a pistol grip stock and forearm.

Glad I could help.

As someone who owns one of each, I would say the Mossberg. My reason is the position of the controls. The action release is easliy actuated by the trigger finger without having to change your grip and I like the top mount thumb safety. In terms or reliability and smooth action, I've had my 500 for 25 years and it has never missed a beat.

The military also issues the M9 and the M4.
That's a bad thing. Remember, "Bought by the lowest bidder."
