Srsly, you have to ask yourself what are your strong points, what were your best subjects in school? What do you enjoy doing? What are you actually good at? and it doesn't matter if you like it or not.
I would not recommend starting your own business if you don't know anything about the subject. I am actually laying the ground work to start my own business to do on the side of my 8-6 job.
What type of courses were you taking in college? What I did was take some of everything. I took a CJ course and really liked it, so I took another, liked it, soon that was my major. Then it comes time to ask yourself what you will do with that degree? Police, Federal Agent? PI? What? Well, once again, I took two computer and cyber crime courses, really had a blast with those, then on top of the other computer courses I was taking for S&G's I realized that I could make a career out of this and that is what I intend to do.
Truthfully, I would go to the colleges career center and have a talk with a career counselor. They will help give you some good direction. Also, with you having been in the military, that can be a big plus when job hunting.

It may take some time. I don't think a lot of people know EXACTLY what they want to do for their life, and I know I do not.
I went to college, got my degrees, and still am not sure why I chose em. I have an OK job at best, but am considered poor in CA (probably normal almost everywhere else).
I have been working on a few things that may or may not be marketable, who knows? (I have a few flavors of homemade smoked peanuts that are awesome, and as far as I know not made)
Look around, see what you like (or don't like) and go from there.
Oh, however, i'm not going to college to be broke, the salary of the occupation will play a HUGE part in the decisions. I'm not looking to make anything under 70/$80,000 a year, and not in 30 years... if that helps narrow the ideas down. I don't figure going to school for 4yrs and spending 50/60k on school to make $40,000 is pointless, i'm almost makin that now and i hate my job.
You need to be realistic. No offense but with your experience (or lack there of) you won't be able to find anything that pays that much (70-80K a year). Engineering Masters, Computer Masters, Doctors, Lawyers yes but when you consider how much schooling they've had, it's relative.
Most entry level jobs that have any potential of going anywhere (upwards in income) typically require a college education or some type of certification/specialized degree (like ITT or Devry or Maric college) While they take only 18-24 months they are not cheap (18-25K) and if you do get a specialized degree, you are limited in what you can do with it. And entry level is more like 35-40K with upward mobility you could make 70-80K.
What did you do in the military? Any type of specialized training? You may find something in the civilian sector that mirrors your training but I doubt it will make what you want to without spending some time doing grunt work.
The only thing I know of where you could potentially make 70-80K after a couple years of experience is sales. And I don't mean that retail/kiosk crap. I mean real sales, capital equipment sales, infrastructure sales, etc. Typically outside sales, not that inside "telemarketer" crap they try to pass off as a "sales" position.
Get into the food industry....Im a business manager for a national food brokerage. Im 21 making 50+. I have 2 years left to get my degree. Then maybe go direct with a national food comapny. Regional managers make big bucks and the perks are awesome.
Just giving you an idea.
