It is workout related, it happens to me in my calves, not always, but it happens. I believe it is nutrient related, either not enough water or missing something in your diet. Make sure you are taking a multivitamin and are hydrated during workout. Wouldn't hurt to maybe hit up webmd or ask your doctor about it just to be sure it isn't something more serious.
stretch out before and after your workouts. esp after your workout. if you do it right your muscles will feel a lot better.
before my run, i like to stretch out my back and legs for a minute or two, not too much. then after my cool-down i stretch out my back, legs, shoulders, arms..... for at least 5 mins. my runs are from 1.5 to 3 miles, at least 4 times a week.
i have a feeling its your stretching not your diet.
