I use 55 grain Wolf for plinking, and some lightweight 44 grain Winchester (Walmart carries it) for hitting small stuff like coyotes. Believe it or not, I took down a wild hog weighing over 200lbs with some cheap Wolf FMJs, lol! It was a lucky shot, went in under the throat and nailed her spine. Dropped like a sack of potatoes.
As far as defense, I don't really know. I have 3k rounds of Wolf, some surplus s109 (that stuff is expensive) and the Winchester. I think I would trust the Winchester against soft targets since they come apart really fast, but I wouldn't trust it to take care of business if sheetrock or car doors were involved. It fragments quick.
Those 72 grain rounds are nasty, but I think you got to be set up to fire those. I've heard conflicting things about them chambering without some tweeking. Thats why I love the AR though, you can have as many uppers as you want for whatever you want to do.
