I don't remember if it was an official recall or not. There were a few cases of the previous generation F-150's catching fire while parked overnight. Regardless, there are bigger recalls and safety issues than some floor mats.
I'm carrying a bit of baggage about this issue because there's another article posted somewhere with a bunch of responses about how Toyota suddenly sucks and that "Japs" make terrible cars. It's pretty funny, I'll go find the link.
Jap cars are junk. They sound whinning..like a toy. You will see
more recalls because they often lie about their safety standards. I read some articles that claim there are more to come..
The big 3 auto makers and their suppliers produced $30 billion worth of military equipment from 1942 to 1945. Hundreds of thousands of American auto workers that included your aunts, great aunts, uncles, grand parents worked in plants. They built bombers, tanks and trucks at a great sacrifice to their family. Their mission: to defeat the Japanese who attacked us with their kamikaze pilots at Pearl Harbor. Yet today, the majority of Americans are helping the Japanese defeat the very
Auto workers and UAW union that stood in the gap for America during the war by buying Japanese cars.
Japanese people are loyal to their nation and to their culture,
unlike many Americans. To you Americans who have bought Japanese, shame on you.
The Japanese have their own cash for clunkers program and they refused to include American made products. Debbie Stabenaw from Michigan has made a plea to Obama to address this issue during the G20 summit. She is furious and so am I and so should you. Our tax dollars just went to Japan to fund the 8 of the top 10 selling cars..made in Japan. We just gave a big boost to their economy, while hurting ours.
How many Japanese people do you see driving American Cars? Not many.
How many do you see in Japan, not many. .
To you Americans who have bought Japanese, you should be ashamed of yourself for the hundreds of thousands of job losses in our communities. It affected not just the car companies, dealers, suppliers, it also affected waitresses, bank tellers,
retail employees, small businesses, drug store clerks, communities
and public schools that had to cut back.
One last thought, how many Japanese citizens are fighting and dying
for you in Iraq today.
This American will not dishonor those soldiers that fought or died at
the hands of the Japanese during WWII..and will not dishonor our
country and soldiers today fighting in Iraq by buying anything Japanese made.

How the hell would a car catch on fire while it's parked?
Go sit in the corner!

How is that not possible? I remember when the issue came up, though I can't remember the specifics. There were news stories showing a few burned garages from it.
Here's another Ford recall for the cruise control causing vehicle fires.
Shorts in the electrical junction boxes. GM had one with their cruise controls doing something similar. The control box for the cruis control would short and start fires, while it was parked and off.
Anyways, the whole point of this thread was for those that are always bashing domestics. Every manufacturer has its flaws no matter how "perfect" they are. Some are very SIMPLE things others are more complex.
Regarding the comment about "well at least it doesn't catch fire" Um I think the floormat thing is worse as in, the car is in motion with people in it 100% of the time it happens. A fire is random in most cases there have not been people in teh vehicle when it happens or the car is stopped.
