I keep my gun in my pants... unless my wife wants to handle it, but I rarely do that in the open.

I carry mine for protection for myself, my family, and others. There have been plenty of instances where a shooting has happened, and no body thought to carry a weapon. Here are a few instances...

http://www.thedenverchannel.com/news...21/detail.html

http://www.cnn.com/2009/CRIME/03/08/...ing/index.html

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,315342,00.html

http://blog.taragana.com/n/gunman-ki...us-gym-131091/

Those are just a few of the stories i have pulled. A lot of people think they are safe going somewhere just because it doesn't "seem" dangerous or that they go there all the time and nothing has happened. The reality is that they are wrong. I would rather carry my gun and never need it then, need it and not have it.

Eh, I'm one of those mid-class, red-state, clinging to my guns and religion folks - my husband is a former prison guard (Can't tell you the a-holes that 'got out' and immediately starting mouthing off about I know where you live, how's your wife/daughter/son? type crap) He's also a deputy sheriff and parole officer. And in Oklahoma - that means he has to bust meth labs regularly. Does NOT make him popular with the criminals. (it is nice though that he's got such close ties to the cops - that's how we get away with drag racing in town on a regular basis. *EG*)

We keep a loaded 9 MM handy, our kids are taught to handle a weapon properly and safely - not to fear it but respect it, and I have no problems with the idea of shooting an intruder multiple times - one in the head, two in the chest. I also happen to have a 12 gauge by the bed right now as said husband is out of town on a hunting trip. I also have a Big Bertha golf driver laying on the floor by the bed and a huge Mag-lite if all else fails. LOL

All that being said, the sad part about this is that she seemed so proud of her gun, yet the person that killed her wasn't the dreaded stranger intent on robbing and raping her and her children - but her own husband and the father of said children.

Hard to say who shot who.. could have been the husband mad that he wouldn't get the million bucks.. could be wife was mad when he said he'd still get 1/2 no matter what..

I think she should have been allowed to take the gun to the soccer game.. I don't see a problem with that.. it's not like public parks are the safest areas.. most schools are gun free zones though so you cant have one anyway so this soccer game must not have taken place at school or been a school related activity. I am completely against gun free zones.. and like I said before.. If I or someone I know got shot in a gun free zone i'd sue whoever owns or is responsible for making it so people couldn't defend themselves..

Brian.. it's CNN.. what do you expect? especially written by someone named Edmund..

Skar - you're absolutely right - coulda been her shot him then killed herself, not the other way around (if that's what you mean - otherwise, the second and third paragraph name her husband as one who is shot and dead and says no other people were believed to have been present).

My point remains the same. She didn't kill a random raping stranger. She wasn't killed BY a random stranger. It was a case of domestic violence.
