Default Dont hate me...SBC rocker arm adjustment help

Ok guys, just put together a 350 SBC for me and my dads truck. Everythings fine runs ok but the vavles need a little adjustment. Stock rockers from a 72' motor. How should I go about adjusting these. Hydrolic lifters. Will I need to pop the intake off and make a solid lifter like doing it on a 5.0 or my dad said something about gettin a scrap valve cover cutting it out where the nuts are for the rocker arms and adjust them while its running and listen. Doubt that will work but, just need a little guidence.

with the cam lobe in the closed position for each valve, tighten each rocker nut until there is no slop in the pushrod (you should be able to spin it freely but no up and down play) and then go about 1/2 a turn farther in. that sets the lifter preload. some people go 1/4 turn, some 3/4. going 1/2 always seems like a happy place.

and yeah people used to do it while they were running but its nowhere near as accurate and its messy as all hell.
