We all stand on the shoulders of giants. I think Iron Maiden paved the way for all the new age heavy metal.

But even during Metallica's high point, I was a big Pantera fan. Metallica was just a little too commercial for me.

Note my shirt. This was like 15+ years ago, lol.

Not saying thats you, but what I am saying is Metallica > Megadeth. I still <3 Megadeth, though.

Metallica has contributed nothing to thrash.

You ask someone like Laiho from CoB what is metal, he sure as hell won't say metallica.

Kill em all was the only record that had any influence from mustaine, of course it was their heaviest, sad part is it still isn't thrash.

Metallica =/= != '= thrash

Megadth, especially Rust in Piece, Killing is my Business, and So far so good, so what.

I'm sorry, but there isn't a militia in the world that has coined their motto from a metallica album, but there are several with the slogan "killing is my business...... and business is good"

Mustaine put metallica on the map, if it wasn't for him, they'd never have been famous

Whoah, you think slayers vocals were better than mustaine's? What crack are you on, I'd love some.

Metallica isn't thrash. Pure and simple. Metallica sucks ass.

I find some right and wrong in this.

AC/DC and Kiss, for example are classified as rock/hard rock. There are different genres for metal.

MegaDeth is Heavy Metal/Thrash Metal/Power Metal
Metallica is Heavy Metal/Metal/Power Metal
Death is Death Metal
Psycroptic/Spawn of Possession is Death Metal/Rip your facking face off Metal.
DT is Progressive Metal/Hard Progressive Rock- although the band differs a lot.
Rush is Progressive Rock

Just a few good examples.

Early Metallica was definitely metal. If you want, you can call it Vintage metal, because it is....same goes for KMIB. They sound somewhat alike.

Kirk had his own style in Exodus. After DM left Metallica, much of Kirk's solos on Kill Em All much replicated what DM had. I would call it Kirk feeling, Dave playing. As most of you know, dave wrote rhythm and lead sections for the first three albums. I would almost bet that some of his influence was used later on. However, it does not matter, as most bands will just pop in another band's CD and get ideas based from different bands. Otherwise, they would both be experiencing writer's block.

Later, in MOP and beyond, much of Dave's playing in Kirk had started to disappear. Less pentatonic patterns were used after.

With that said, Kirk and Dave both have drawbacks. They are not elite guitarists, and are overrated. However, in their day (early 80's to mid 1990's), they were top dog.

Both bands created good stuff, but MegaDeth's guitarists blow away Metallica's. You have James and Kirk on one side, or DM (who is arguably as good as Kirk), and another...faster lead guy. Singing is to judge. Both have their weak spots....overall- James is better. This is all my opinion...not fact.

The way I see it, Chris, Jeff, Marty and Al introduced a lot into MegaDeth. Marty was the best player they had, and I don't think Dave will admit it until after he's done and working with his home studio equipment (which he says in the article). Chris had done good solos in The System Has Failed. After that album, the guitar work and lead work become tiring. Basic 0-5 chugging on the 5th and 6 strings for rhythm and blazing lead with no feeling made me think of ripping out the CD. There were some good songs, like 1320 and Sleepwalker, for example...but it got old, quick....especially with Endgame. Maybe I just have to grow to like it....but when I have Dream Theater standards for every band, I can't allow it.

Metallica died way before MegaDeth, which is a shame. The last good album was the Black Album...great album was AJFA. New MegaDeth>New Metallica. To sum it up, every new Metallica album is like the 2010 Failmaro. They try so hard and long to make something solid, but it still falls apart. Although, this attempt was their best in almost 20 years. So What was a funny song, at least.

What else?

I wouldn't like to be Chris Broderick and the other guys right now.

Yeah, but he has even a worse attitude than DM most times.

Pantera sucked Before Phil arrived though. Too bad they split, they got better and better every album. Still can't believe what happened to Dimebag

Remember these four albums: Metal Magic, Projects in the Jungle, I am the Night, and Power Metal??

Yeah, they were bad.

Those are up there, but in my opinion "Reign In Blood" blows those two out of the water when it comes to an extremely good thrash album. I would be hard pressed to find another 30 minutes of thrash that can match it.

Mr. Petrucci, not hardly, lol.

But something just occurred to me. I'm almost as old as Mustaine, if I recall. And the last time I saw a pic of him when he was interviewed for this new album, he was starting to look a bit old.

To say Metallica is not thrash metal is the most ignorant thing you can say. Thrash metal composes of the "Big 4," again, Metallica, Megadeth, Antrhax, and Slayer. Any thrash guy will tell you that. Kill 'em all and RTL were THRASH albums. They helped contribute to the start of thrash. DM = thrash and thats the style he played in Kill 'em all. Seek & Destroy, The Four Horsemen, Whiplash, Phantom Lord, Metal Militia, Ride the Lightning, For Whom the Bell Tolls, Creeping death ALL THRASH SONGS. Sure, some songs like Fade to Black may have not been that close to thrash, but it does not make up for the fact that they were thrash metal. Can't say that now, but they were.
