Thats how I have always looked at them. If it was a normal cop I would have just stayed in the truck. Got out to see what he needed, and I'm on the hood hod their truck while he searches the area...
i have back home in iowa. they were all pretty nice though. just the older guys were pricks.
the older guy patrolled a camp ground/state park but i think he was a prick cuz kids liked goin out there and tryin to booze it up.
the ones that were cool as **** were the ones we would meet out on the river. they would just chill out and hang back for a while and watch people party on the beach etc.
maybe once a year they pull you over while youre in the boat cruising just to check and make sure you have all the required safety equip. etc.
at that though they never once get on your boat, just have you show them everything and then sometimes will stay there just BS'n with you and you can get them to talk about the drunk asses they find driving around in the boats and how they **** when they find out you can get a DUI on the river lol
theyre asshole here too.. we go floating down the river in the summer and theyll ticket the dog**** out of you if you dont have a life jacket or if youre drinking if they catch you.
thank god we never ran into them this year, but we had several other friends not be so lucky, $200 ticket for having a beer.. **** that.. its not like we were leaving them at the riverbottom or on the shores or something, we took all our trash with us and everything, but just having it out in the open in a 'public' area isnt allowed.. and yes.. you have to have a life jacket.. even though youre just on an innertube in 4ft of water.
haha that sucks. you can be out on the mississippi with a damn keg for all they care. the only thing they will do is sit on the shore across from the beach watching you with binoculars and if you seem pretty wasted when you speed away in the boat they come after you then.
you can float in the little rivers with a cooler of beer for all they care.
edit:
apparently the DNR up in WI and the UP are pricks though come snowmobile season. but then again they have sound restrictions etc.
buddy got busted comin out of the woods to an open trail and the DNR was sittin there waitin for him cuz they could hear him. pretty much if you dont have a stock looking exhaust youre getting a ticket.
DNR are dicks around here, i think they have more authority than state troopers, one time a guy like 50 feet of us was drinking beer and fishing so they made us walk another 20 feet away and stand there untill they got done writing the guy a citation (it was a state park, no beer allowed). We were swimming where we were, a cliff where you could jump off and climb back up but noooo, wouldn't let us we wern't far enough away, We asked if we could leave and the guy startes bitchin up a storm saying we could be in trouble for not cooperating, WTF all we were doing was swimming, which is allowed there and hes bein a dick for no reason.

we got caught wheelin a few times at a local park.. same guy every time, hes cool. $75 ticket for everyone driving. We pulled him out once because he tried to drive out to us no ticket that time. Now he just walks out and talks with us for a while and we drive him back to his truck.
Also known as Fish Cops. Im pretty sure they are dicks all over because they are trying to get the same recognition as Police. So they bust everyones ass.
