Microsoft is offering Windows 7 for $29.99 to people with a .edu email address, pretty nice.
Now the question, 64b or 32b? My computer is currently running the 32b version of Vista but has a 64b processer. Whole it be worthwhile to upgrade to 64b or just alot of hassle for a minimal gain?

My place of employment still doesn't support Vista.
I'm gonna wait till the bugs are worked out or at least until the second service pack before I switch.
Yeah the Air Force is about to switch to Vista on everything, I'm afraid. My computer barely runs as is on XP, Vista is going to kill it.

I have no idea what Solidworks is. I'm not a big computer doer guy, most everything I use is interwebs, music, video and bittorrent. How does 64b like torrents and a client like utorrent?

Go with 32 bit, there still isn't alot of support for 64 bit operating systems, I suggest the 32 bit version whenever possible, unfortunately.
There are still quite a few compatability issues with 64 bit vista. Maybe windows 7 will fix it, maybe it wont, but I'd do 32 bit just to be safe.
Just because it's a 32 bit operating system doesn't mean it can't run processes in all 64 bits, it just limits the range of numbers that the computer can represent internally
