Yeah, the only way to build up immunity to a virus is to be exposed to the live virus so your body can adapt to it. They tell you when you take it that you're probably going to feel like **** for the rest of the day, I don't know why it pissed people off so badly.
Meh, there are other ways to vaccinate, but a weakened strain is what they went with for Influenza.
I wouldn't get it unless I worked in a Hospital or worked in a preschool or something.

you do know that when you get a flu shot, theyre basically giving you the flu, right? you cant build an immunity to something you've never had before.
I do know this, and have had the flu before, the shot (and in the years after) but the shot knocked me on my ass. I haven't been that sick since I was a young child, and I haven't been that sick since. It was the first and last time I had a flu shot.
I am not gonna get one anytime soon. My immune system is pretty good.
For many people: eating healthy, drinking enough water, and exercising regularly are enough to combat the yearly flu. Like I said above, if I worked in a hospital like my sister, or was a teacher for young kids I would get the flu vaccine every year. I do however keep updated on more crucial shots such as Tetanus, Hep C, etc.
But, those people should also wash their hands a couple times a day, not chew on pens(I'm horrible with this), and try and cut back on alcohol(this too).
:P

I can see a person with health issues maybe needing a shot. But for the average healthy person, I think things like this just make their natural immune systems dependent. This is the goal of the pharmaceutical companies which are controlled by the government. They want everyone to depend on drugs to survive for the rest of their lives.
I don't think pregnant women should get the H1N1 shot, yet I watched on the news this morning and they're lined up like sheep being lead off to slaughter. On one hand, it could cause serious issues to the unborn child if the mother gets the virus. But prenatal vitamins prevent that. On the other hand, the vaccine could cause other problems. There is mercury in the H1N1 vaccine. Mercury is linked to autism as well as other permanent "life long" illnesses.
