This was posted by one of the resident geniuses on SVTP in the same topic:

Interesting, yes. But not entirely accurate.

1.) Quantum tunneling is not the same as propelling yourself through space.

2.) The reporter is also wrong in one other major respect, but most everyone else gets it wrong too, so at least he is not alone: Special Relativity does not say you can not travel as fast, or faster, than the speed of light.

What it does say is a bit more subtle: Special Relativity says there is a limit to how fast you can push yourself. Get the biggest rocket ever made. Got a dozen of them, or a thousand or as many as they ever make, and you cannot go as fast as light.

But, if you happen to fall on the wrong side of the event horizon of a black hole, then congratulations, you are now falling faster than the speed of light. The trick here is that it is spacetime itself that is moving faster than light, and you are along for the ride. Surfing spacetime, as it were. But surfing it like a surfer who has been ripped apart into a hot plasma by tidal forces, blasted by radiation, and charged up with so much current you now emit x-rays ... so it's still going to harsh your vibe.

In other words, there is a limit to how fast you can push yourself, but no limit on how fast you can fall.

3.) However, none of this applies to events at the quantum level, which has all kinds of things that happen instantaneously, even over great distances. In short, Special Relativity does not apply to quantum mechanics. And vice-versa.

Reconciling those two is an on-going problem for the last 60 years, at least.

dude this is pretty ill if this is true, but i wonder if this is something that has another explanation behind it. usually when things claim to violate rules of space, time and matter, im skeptical

would this be the one violation to quantum physics? :O

secondly, they may have found a way to change the way the light traveled through time, in essence actually proving Einstein's theory even more.

The reason that the speed of light is the ultimate limit is because when energy is reformulated to be a "version" of mass, it is logically impossible to cause any particle with any measureable mass to travel at or very close to the speed of light, let alone faster than that.

The reason is the closer a particle with mass gets to the speed of light, the more massive it becomes (literally it 'aquires' more mass), until which point it literally becomes infinitely massive, and thus requirement an infinite more amount of energy to increase it's speed.

It's already known that you can create closed loops in time, called "frame dragging", at which point a particle could pass through one end that is involved in the frame dragging, and come out of the other side at a different point in time, even if in reality, they are the same point in space.

They must not have a good understanding of General/Special Relativity if they actually thought they broke E = MC^2
glad you're learning from my teachings...

No man, I'm serious. The speed of light is extremly manipulative, light does NOT go 186,282 miles per second or whatever it is...
