Actually... are you sure about that?

Wipe out the entire NFL, and you could restock all the rosters in ten minutes. They might not be quite as good, but the NFL would go on, and in fact you might even get just as even results in play.

The size of the labor pool has less to do with why someone gets paid a lot.

I think a big aspect of what people think about with this is the REAL value, not monetary but something higher, of what they do. Obviously an EMT or a teacher contribute a TON more to the world than a tall guy who can put a basketball in a hoop. So... in an ideal world, how should that balance of how much you bring in vs. how much you contribute in a larger sense be achieved?

yeah, you could find people who would want to play, but my god, the NFL would be horrible if you made all the current players disappear. it'd be on the level of the better college teams, with bigger, stronger dudes.

hell, you don't even need good teachers to get an education until you are in college, you need good parents.

I have a friend that buys out 10 season seats in front of the glass at Joe Louis arena....

he never goes to a game... at the end of the season he's over $100,000 richer... ESPECIALLY when we go deep into the playoffs like we have been

moral of the story? yeah, they are overpaid... doesn't mean you can't capitalize on some of the profits ;-)

the first bolded part contradicts the second bolded part

the reason why they are paid so much is because they are the best out of the labor pool. if they were second best they would be paid accordingly. as they are (for the most part)

and murphys law prohibits there ever being an ideal world. however, i dont believe that if teachers and firefighters were paid a ton it would make it better, but rather worse. dont get me wrong, i hold them in the highest regard (ive actually wanted to be a volunteer firefighter for a long time), but if they got paid a ton that would attract people to the profession that were only in it for the money. we see this with doctors (however, its on a much smaller scale because a majority of the ones only in it for the money drop out because its too much schooling). thats not to say i dont understand what youre saying. i wish that were the case and that it would work out, its just the economic system wont let it be.

after re reading your post i also could have misunderstood you, so please correct me if i did, but i think i get what youre saying

Who said USC was a lock? I wish you simple minded people would stop making up things to post about, especially when the subject matter was no where in my post that you qouted..

What I said, was that USC was going to beat Oregon..

But you can meet me in the college football thread if you want to continue...or else just STFU..
