I can't afford food at the fair, so I go to disneyland or a baseball game where the food is more reasonably priced.
last time I went to the fair, there was a horse that was like 6 feet tall at the shoulders. I could only imagine how much glue and dog food that horse was worth. the horse got jealous of my penis size and we had to leave.
I haven't been to the local fair in a while, too dangerous. Went to the Howard county fair a ways back, it was when they were just reintroducing the thunderbird. Ate funnel cake and pies and all sorts of goodies, didn't have too many rides, went and saw a small concert then the animal judging, good times.

I love the fair! I went twice while it was in town. One of the new foods this year is deep fried coke. You have to get it, it's so good! Also deep fried avocados, but that was just ok. The deep fried artichokes were really good though.
OH, you have to see the cat show! It's the funnest thing you'll ever see! Just regular house cats, but they do amazing tricks. But there is one of the cats that is a total tard and even looks like a total tard. While all the cats are doing tricks, he's messing up all the tricks and pretty much does the opposite things the trainer tells him to do. He even drives around in an RC car, lol.
Generally the fairs across the country travel with the same stuff, but there are also things that are only regional. So grab a progam right when you get there and look through the shows, etc.
