nice bitch slap for Chevy, only one month after announcing their ZL-1.

teeheehee im giddy to see the HP wars are still strong

If it isn’t limited to 155 mph, as the current car is, the 2013 GT500 should be capable of topping 190 mph.
amazing what level of performance you can buy for ~$60,000 (not counting dealership price jacks)

well, its getting cold outside again...****in reached down to the 40s the other day. almost can't wait for the snowy stuff............................almost i don't have a twitter account nor have i ever been to a twitter web page (update: i have), but if i ever did decide to take the plunge i will let you know by posting it in this awesome little box of text (update: not really)! i like tacos lol...though between crunchy tacos and soft tacos i cannot really say which one is better. sometimes, the mess a crunchy taco leaves behind is a little annoying while the soft taco just doesn't have the same taste... cake is so much better than pie no, srsly. **** pie. ****ing

GM probably will have to put the LS9 (638hp) in the Camaro to keep up

I said it a lot when there were all those spy shots of them testing with a current gt500. The competition should only be used as a benchmark not the goal. The ZL1 will smoke the 2011 shelby, but who says its going to stay the same...and now this.

It is definitely an exciting time for muscle cars.

What won’t change is the basic rear-suspension design. That’s right: This most insanely powerful of Mustangs will keep its live axle. It’ll just be a little, er, livelier.
Meh not interested, any word on the redesign? What was it, for 2014? Hopefully Ford does something about the archaic suspension and weight, if the news is good I'll make sure to return to the pony car ranks, if not imports will have to suffice.

It being the fastest and lightest of the competition, its not like they HAVE to change it.

I would love to see it lighter and have a IRS as well, but not unless its actually better than it is now.

Even if it tips the scales at 3500, I wouldn't mind as long as it gains a ****ing IRS.

you would think they could gear and shape the current GT500 to hit 190MPH considering the LS3 vette can hit 190MPH with over 100BHP less... I wouldn't think you would need that much power (over 600BHP) just to claim bragging rights to 190MPH... I can think of over a dozen cars with over 600 ponies that can go over 200MPH

as far as the suspension setup, I ran through a breakdown of what they changed with the 2011 GT500 in a post awhile back... I will try and find it, but they changed a bunch of things to make the live axle more than capable of handling properly

The Mustang is shaped like a brick though, it is as drag coefficient as a 50's fridge.

I realize that, I just think even with that it should be able to hit 190MPH in it's current 2011 state with the correct gearing, 550BHP isn't exactly less than sufficient power

also, found my post on the rear suspension

Quote:
These are the changes on the 2011 GT500 suspension as opposed to the earlier GT500's

#1 Electric steering assist
#2 SVTPP front sway bar
#3 SVTPP front struts
#4 SVTPP rear shocks
#5 SVTPP rear springs (and boy are they some springs)
Click the image to open in full size.
^^^ I'm almost positive they used linear springs as well... which makes a huge difference

#6 GIGANTIC SVTPP LCA's in comparison to the older models (wheel hop is now all but gone apparently)
Click the image to open in full size.
#7 a widened 9.5" tire width and all new very track ready G2 supercar tires
Click the image to open in full size.

all of this into consideration... if everything is tuned correctly, the GT500 just may be more on a road course than I originally thought
while these add on's do not seem much this live axle car will more than likely perform just as good, if not better than an IRS car in the corners

I can't say I'm too thrilled with a quieter TVS supercharger either... isn't the massive whine like 3/4 the fun for the factory supercharged modulars?

In a smooth track yes a live axle can overcome it's design flaws, but in real roads where there are bumps mid corner, the live axle can scare the **** out of you, there are plenty of county roads around my house so I can attest to this, having your rear end shudder jump mid corner is no fun. I'm sure this car will be a straight line beast, and in a track be pretty competent, but just think of what it could of been. Also I go on county roads because the closest road course track is over a hundred miles away not because I chose to drive on real roads.

So you are saying it isn't very good when trying to race on city streets, which you shouldn't be doing anyway. Gotcha. You don't buy a car like this unless you are just cruising (and showing it off) or tracking it. If you want a good back country road car you wouldn't buy any pony/muscle car.

It's not a race, as much as spirited driving.

Hmmm. I think maybe they mean the fanbois are butt hurt, not the guys with common sense and an enthusiasm for all bad *** cars.
