Maybe some "easties" freaked out, as a 6-ish seismic event is a rather unusual occurrence out here.

It became pretty obvious what was happening once the swaying didn't stop after a second or so. Then again, I get to do seismic design/analysis in my job, so it was kind of neat to physically feel what I've been designing things to withstand. It gives you a slightly different perspective than you get from just running the numbers.

Lol, I knew we were going to get called out on that one.

Even here, in Charleston, WV, we felt the aftershocks. The hospital felt like we were in a construction sight zone. We certainly aren't used to anything like that occurring. My mom called me, and I did tell her Cali was probably laughing at us right now. Lol

From where do we get earthquakes here on the east coast? I understand that the west coast is on a subduction zone but the east isn't... I took a geology class awhile ago but I forgot everything in it LoLz

Probably the Ramapo Fault Line. "Relatively inactive" does not mean "extinct" or whatever more appropriate geological term may exist.

and if i recall correctly there are a lot of minor faults which is why the quake was felt across so many states .

Mine clearly isn't hah! Luckily...after the tiny one I felt in '09 I added earthquake insurance to my coverage. The insurance company said I was the 10th claim of the day.

I can't imagine what a big quake feels like? I got the aftershock of a 5.9 from Virginia and it turned my clock sideways in my kitchen HAH!

I want another quake!!!

i was like 10-15 miles from the epicenter, outside walking back from lunch. it was pretty cool. i dont see what people out west / japan were complaining about. it was pretty fun!

got a 4.x aftershock around 8 last night.

also, there is a nuclear power plant ~10 miles from the epicenter. quake was a 5.9, plant is built to handle a 6.1.

well, its getting cold outside again...****in reached down to the 40s the other day. almost can't wait for the snowy stuff............................almost i don't have a twitter account nor have i ever been to a twitter web page (update: i have), but if i ever did decide to take the plunge i will let you know by posting it in this awesome little box of text (update: not really)! i like tacos lol...though between crunchy tacos and soft tacos i cannot really say which one is better. sometimes, the mess a crunchy taco leaves behind is a little annoying while the soft taco just doesn't have the same taste... cake is so much better than pie no, srsly. **** pie. ****ing

the washington monument is closed indefinitely. they found several cracks yesterday. also many government buildings are closed for the time being for damage that was found. I've already heard a bunch of people finding cracks in their homes. Luckily, my house is fine. Went home, no mess except the one's i left. Other than the drawers in the kitchen and computer desk being open, there were no complaints.
