Default Best friend! Valuable Book! Ruined! ARRRGH! Exclamation points!!!!!?!!!!!

So a few years back at the Turkey Rod Runs I happen across Smokey Yunicks autobiography entitled, "The Best Damn Garage In Town, My Life and Adventures" by Smokey Yunick for 25.00 in damned fine shape.

I absolutely devoured the book and found it to be a wealth of information on a myraid of subjects as diverse as the man himself was.

I loaned it to my Master ASE mech friend who was reading in on throne as time and nature permitted. He has a crazier than hell, Maine Coon cat who one day while he was working, apparently knocked it off of the bathroom counter and into the sink with a leaky faucet where it got dripped on all day. He was able to dry it out but it is now in incredibly poor shape.

He came over to the house today and showed me the book and was apologizing and blowing snot all over my shoes. He handed me a hundred dollars and asked if we could work off the balance in automotive work, ie. putting the fastbacks engine back together and getting it running. Flabbergasted that he handed me a hundred dollars, I ran in and checked out the going price

What was I supposed to do...of course I said yes.

Well he said he'd work off the balance right? Sucks that you lossed such an apparently expensive and rare book, but if you get 900 dollars of work out of it, financially you are back to where you were.

2006 Mustang V6 PP | C&L CAI | Bama 93 race tune | 14" Shorty Antenna | Eagle GTs | 18" stripe
GT/CS Front Bumper | Bullit Grille | Hawk HPS pads| Slotted and Drilled Rotors | Strano Swaybars
Prothane Motor Mounts | MMD Hood Struts | 55w 5000K HIDs | Poly Bushings

There is no dark side of the moon really. Matter of fact, it's all dark.

I have been scouring used book stores for a bit hoping to get lucky and find a copy that isn't a monthly rent check. No luck yet

FWIW there are a ton of good books that go for decent coin for some reason or another. You should see how much a copy of 'Sled Driver' goes for. Unreal.

Sucks about your copy though. At least he was a good enough person to realize his error and is doing his best to rectify it.

I actually bought a childrens book from my younger years online. Found a pretty nice copy for $8. Some copies are going from $60-$100. Crazy what some out of prints go for. But then again, if you have the disposible income and want to reclaim a piece of your childhood...
