Do you mean 427 with a 4.0 Whipple? Can't see them throwing a 4.0L supercharger on that dog 5.3L 327...

I can see Carroll Shelby's brain ticking as we speak.

If we can shatter a world record out of a 5.4, I can sure imagine what we could do with the 5.8 or bigger.

This should deffinitly be a big boost to the performance car world. Now all three, if dodge is still making theirs, have factory race cars. Mind you they arent factory sponsered but it is a great thing if you ask me.

I of course think the CJ will still outrun any engine combination they have. The most best one they have though is definitly the 5.3 with the 4.0 whipple. The is gonna be one wicked little motor.

On the other side, I think that thing is so ugly. In style the CJ puts it to shame 10 to 1. Its got more round buldges than a fat chick riding a hippo

Just another example of Chevy trying to keep up. Ford develops a factory racer (back in 07?) and a few years later, Chevy finally has an offering. That's how it's always been and how it will continue to be until they go belly up again.

A 327 with a 4.0L Whipple... I wonder what the life expectancy of those motors are?

^HA HA HA^

mullet...

So this is GM's latest turd boiler that couldn't win a soap box derby, huh?

Actually I'm glad to see it because as a dyed in the wool capitalist I believe that competition is a good thing. It's good to see Obama's car company doing something useful.

Perhaps you should look at some of your history again. In '93 the Camaro came with an LT1 while Ford was still making Fox bodys that were about a second slower in the 1/4. Ford didn't make a mustang that could keep up with the LT1 until '99. But by then the Camaro was coming with an LS1 and ford wouldn't have a mustang that Is faster until after the Camaro was discontinued. And even then the only mustangs that would run with LS1s were specialty cars that cost a lot more than the basic Z28. That is why a stock '98 Z28 is faster than a 2010 Mustang GT. Taking 12 years to beat a discontinued car isn't exactly competitive.

I agree with you guys, the new Camaro is pretty ugly and way to heavy. If I had to get a new muscle car I would be buying a Mustang.

that car with the FACTORY STOCK bottom end 5.3 from a 2002 Suburban and an MP70 turbo on 15psi put down 600whp all day long trapping 135+mph and running 9's.

that was a junkyard build btw.

Good post on facts.

But to Ford credit, GM (and Mopar) needs more displacement to achieve the same performance.
Look at the current picture with the 5.0... it takes the competition at least 6.0 to beat this thing.
DOHC, that's where it's at baby.
Back in 93 when the LT1 came out, Ford had already revived the muscle car theme with its 5.0 a few years before.
After that, they didn't try to be faster than GM since they kept small displacement mills and even went lower with the 4.6, lol. Smaller than a 289, ouch.
They went more for new tech and study market to see what bites then when that was determined, they got into performance again.
It's always been that way it seems... they come up with new tech, the others catch up and they change the game again.

ford doesn't give a **** that it 'took 12 years to catch up' to a 98 car with their 2011 GT (ignoring the SVT). that ls1 car is still fast by today standards, bone stock, but i doubt the other automakers give a ****.

are those 5.3's forged? how about the 8.1? (i think its an 8.1 gas engine found in huge suburbans/silverados)

cast iron crank/powdered rods in both. the 8100 has slightly weaker rods than the 5.3, but a stronger crank.

the 4.8 has them both kicked though. stock rotating assembly with 27psi has made 1200whp.
