Default camping 2012

so.. it's getting to be that time again.

the snow drift above our camping spot is nearly gone

ground is still a bit spongy and moist but should be okay to camp on.

temporary camping spot.. that road was closed for a few years, last year the signs were gone so my dad camped up the road a ways, then he got chased off and given a ticket for having a motorized vehicle more than 100 yards off a road, because that road was supposed to still be closed. so we moved back to the bottom of the hill and camped at the bottom (he fought the ticket and won, road didn't look closed at the time, then they added signs after he left).

still muddy there...

I'd like to camp here this year, its drier and further away from the main road... this is still about 5 miles away from a paved road.

I've been several times this year. We load all the gear in my boat and camp on the beach at a local lake away from everybody else. I had to laugh.......it's getting almost too hot to tent camp here in OK.

it just snowed up where we camp last sunday, it's been too cold and the snow melt just makes a muddy mess out there, but it should finally stay above freezing for the whole weekend and its been warm enough this year most of the snow has melted, usually we wait till the 4th of july or after because it will still snow on us even on the 4th.

That is the thing that kind of sucks about where we camp, its pretty high up and there is a narrow window of nice camping days, July-August... it will snow up there year round though, it snowed in August 2 years ago, 3 years ago it snowed july 4th. sept 5th we got so much snow it collapsed my tent. generally late july through early august we are safe from snow and it wont go below 50. it's a beautiful area though.

I'm looking forward to some global warming

About an hour drive to my local mountains to be able to see that. But when I camp, it's for 3 days at least, so the hour drive is no big deal.

Some of my best meals have been done over a colemand stove and grillin on an open fire. There have been a few times that I even lugged along the smoker Fresh fish with onions and peppers over a fire is awesome. Fresh trout done in lemon curry butter floating the Green river in NW Clorado under a tarp in a rainstorm was quite entertaining.

Great place to pour some lead into Bambi and mount the remains in the den too.
