Default Help me pick another Mustang

Long story short, I used to be a very active member on this forum, even a moderator at one point. I had a '92 GT. LOVED the car. Sold it, because I'm stupid, and now I regret it. My SUV is almost paid off and I want, no, NEED, another car to have fun in. I love the 5.0. The sound. The power potential. It's been awhile since I've been immersed in the Mustang scene like I used to be. Goal: I want a car, say 450-500rwhp. Turbo. Reliable. Would I be better off going with a pushrod engine, worked over or a 4.6 worked over? It's been a while since I've even been in a Mustang, so I plan on trying to test drive some again to see which one fits best. I'm trying to stay under a $5-6k budget JUST for the car. I'll be doing all the work so that's not a big deal. So. Help me. Pros, cons, whatever.

What's up buddy? How's life in CA treating you? Things still good? Sand dunes still treating you right?

Try finding a low mileage New Edge and boost the crap out of it. Or a Fox body chassis and drop a Coyote 5.0 in it.

Or a SN95 Cobra, then swap in forged internals and boost it.

He could probably pick up a 96-98 Cobra for ~5k. If he looks hard enough. I paid 8k for my 98 and that was a couple years ago.

Or find a 94/95 GT. Just make sure to ditch the stock hood for one with more rise so you can avoid the craptastic intake constrictions.

If you were closer I'd give you a shot at my '99 that's probably going away before next fall.

94-95 GTs are probably a good bet since Foxbody models have gone up in price.

96-98GTs can be had for cheap, but it's definitely a weaker starter platform.

It's possible, just might not look that great or have high miles.

Mileage doesn't bother me. If I'm going to boost it, I'll tear it down anyway and do forged internals. If its a 5.0, I'll do a 306 so it'll get a .030" bore job and probably 8.5:1 CR.

I actually found a local '95 GT with 198k miles on it, and it doesn't look bad, but its got a custom paint job on it and I don't know if I could live with THAT aspect of it everyday. I was really wanting a white one, but it's hard to find one. I can find black and red all day. But not white.
