Default when do you do your first oil change?

I have historically done my first oil change between 2 and 3 thousand miles. The book calls for 7500, but i think that's too much even for a seasoned engine. I just did my first one at 3300 miles and used mobil 1 5w20 and a mobil one filter (M1-210).

does anyone change the factory fill oil sooner, or do you just go with the book?

I haven't had the chance to buy a new car.

Do you know if the oil that's in there is something that's specially formulated to help break in the engine?

i don't think they use break in style oil anymore like they used to. according to the book, it's motorcraft synthetic blend for the 4.0 and the 4.6 engines. i don't know what the 5.4 uses from the factory. i know vettes have full synthetic from the factory.

I bought my car on Saturday, and changed the oil on Sunday.

When I build an engine, I run it for about an hour, then change oil and filter. After half a dozen heat cycles and some around town driving, I change it again. Soon after, I change to a good synthetic oil.

When I bough my GT'07 in November 2006 I was doing my homework on when to change the engine oil and I found out that it should be changed after about 500-750 miles. it was also recommended to drive on all gears (so slow traffic and highway) during this period. I don't remember where I found it but it seamed very reasonable. After the first change I always changed it every 3000 miles. It is probably too often but this is what I do.

Doing a "break-in" oil change really isn't necessary anymore. Modern bearing materials and casting methods don't shed nearly as much material during break-in as they used to. Your oil filter will remove any casting sand or bearing material that ends up in the oil. I'd recommend 3K miles for the first change and then stick to the book unless you're tracking the car. If you track the car, I'd run RP, Redline or Amsoil. If you don't, stick to Motorcraft.

i did my first oil change the day after i got my car, but i already had 480ish miles at that point. I then did another change at 3K (again on my own) and at 7.5K i took it in to ford and let them do that one and right now i plan to keep the 7.5k OCI per the owner manual. All my oil changes have been with Mobile 1 Full synthetic 5w20. I might go to royal purple but dont know for sure yet.

My car had 14 miles when I purchased it. I initially swapped the oil at 500 miles with Castrol Syntec blend 5w-20 and Mobil 1 filter. I swapped it again at 1500 miles with another fill of Castrol Syntec blend and M1 filter. Then at 3000 miles I swapped it to full-syn Amsoil Signature Series 0w-30 w/Amsoil Ea0 filter and swap every 10k miles since that time. The oil level falls from the upper hole on the dipstick to just under the crosshatch in 10k miles (maybe 1/4 quart?) with no top-offs and I attribute that to what gets pushed through the PCV system.
