Default High mileage 111k - should I try RP synthetic?

I was debating this- should I try royal purple synth on my high mileage car? I heard that it can cause leakage due to the smaller molecule of the synth oil, in a high mileage car.

But I also heard that RP synth will add some horseys!

Right now Im running conventional castrol GTX I think.

What do you prefer?

Does your engine burn or leak oil now? If not then you should be ok to us a synthetic oil. The synthetic oil its self doesn't cause engines to leak(it shouldn't at lease) but what it does is it cleans the the oil deposits out of the engine. And sometimes the deposits are whats keeping the engine from leaking(If the seals arnt in good order of course.) I use RP the car seams to run smoother. It wont give you any more HP. You can use any synthetic you like Mobile 1, amsoil, valvoline, RP, redline. There all good oils

my car was burning oil and i used rp synthetic,im not sure if there was synthetic in it before but it didnt hurt the car. after rp i changed the oil to pennzoil platium and added lucas oil stabilizer and the car seems to be running great and not burning as much oil.

I don't know if 90K+- is alot of miles, but I've used royal purple for the past 10K miles and it runs great, couldnt ask for it to run any better. The engine is smooth and never had any problems with it.

There are reported incidents where synthetics would dissolve some crud/deposits that were acting to seal an engine previously using dino oil. I've been told that it's not a good idea to switch from dino to synthetic on a high mileage engine but that problems are hit and miss. My ex-wifes engine with 70,000 miles began to smoke at startup after switching to synthetic due to minor seal leakage but went away about 10,000 miles after switching back to dino.

RP Synthetic is a good oil. I use it in both of my Mustangs (03 Cobra and 07 GT S/C) and have been since I have had both cars. They run very smooth, nice idle, and the oil still comes out brown even after 7K miles(little test I recently did)

Americanmuscle.com sells RP and the K&N Oil Filter(very awesome oil filter) and there is a discount through them, and free shipping.

I started running royal purple and then swapped to redline in a dodge truck w/5.9l and 140k miles. If you have seal issues once switching to synthetic replace your seals for christ sake!! If you don't care about the vehicle, keep feeding it dino every 3k and eventually sell it.

My dodge truck seeped from the rear main but it didn't lose a quart over the 6k mile change interval so wtf??? As long as you're not leaking fluid on your driveway and if you ARE leaking fluid on your driveway something need to be fixed, even on a 200k mile motor. Fix the problem folks!!!

Default why do it

so i dont see why you would want to swwich to syenthetic oil so bad if the old stuff is wworking well...castrol is a good oil...id say you are better off just sticking to reg oil. you dont gain much more hp. Plus ive heard the that sythenetiic stuff will usally take off the permante coat of oil film on your enginge that you get from when you break it in.....also they do not have a oil filter that will last as long as the oil....from what i can tell. So you have to change the filter before the oil the fill it back with more so you dont save money.......its alot to worry about for the tiny bit of horse that youll never feel..................i dont do it becasue of the hasel
