^ good question.
I only use 100% synthetic oil in mine but I only use motorcraft filters.

Personally, IMO, if you are doing the oil changes at the proper intervals then using a K&N (extra $$) is likely not necessary but if it means extra peace of mind for you then maybe it is worth it.

Also, I stick a powerful magnet on the bottom of the filter to attract and hold any metal particles in the filter.
May not be necessary to some but I know a guy who does this with his drag car and he has a cut open filter in his shop and showed me the particles collected in the paper where the magnet was. All I needed to see.

Either Ford or Purolater Pro-1. Lots of independant testing shows them to be consistantly on the top of the heap. Fram is generally at the bottom.

I use the K & N for the simple fact it's tough to remove the filter with my aftermarket K-member and that 1" nut comes in handy. If i could, I'd go back to a Motorcraft

I use the ford racing filters. Not only are they large they have more filtering materials. Theres a reason they are almost twice as heavy. Since they've come out with the FRPP fl-1a I have used nothing but that, before they had those I used the motorcraft.

Motorcraft FL820S I've read nothing but good things about this filter. It's readily available, reasonably priced and preferred by Ford.
