First Oil Change
I've seen a lot of guys here doing thier first oil change within the first couple thousand miles. Why is that? I'm coming up on 1500 miles and have been wondering why some do that. I'll probobly make the change to full synthetic but Im also wondering if i should do that with the first change....
edit: crap, meant to post in general section...

The assumption is that during the break in process, more debris is generated as parts "wear in" to each other on a microscopic level. Makes sense to just toss it out when you don't know how much of it there is.
BUT . . . . .
a number of mfrs are now apparently providing an initial oil fill that isn't quite the same formulation as the commonly available automotive engine oils. I don't know if Ford does this or not, but Honda is pretty clear about keeping the original fill to somewhere past 2000 miles.
So you might consider just changing the filter and topping off the sump to replace what you lost. That's what I did with my wife's new car (↓↓↓).

I changed mine after 1000 miles. The oil that is in the car is already a semi synthetic. I did however go full Synthetic. I managed to get a number of free coupons from Castrol so it didn't cost me but a filter for the first few oil changes.

You sir need to read the oil section here on Mustang Forums. Guys like me who are hard core oil gurus talk about it everyday.
Come on down, say hello, and learn some things while you are there.

They use group III base stocks *highly refined petroleum* and call it a synthetic. This is only tolerated in the USA, and that is a shame to the easily misled American consumer. No offense to you kind sir, as you were not aware.
The big three manufacturers who DO formulate 100% true synthetics are AMSOIL, Red Line, and Royal Purple.
Come on down to the oil forums and read what I have down there.
*Mods, this thread is begging to be moved*

Thanks for the move mods, I hadnt even seen this section; my fault.
unleashed, Thanks for the info. I'll read around here.
by your sig it looks like there are some oils that can go quite a while (ams, royal p and red line?) im assuming that costs quite a bit more... ill research.

My oil filter does better than 8 Frams ( how much does a fram cost?) do the math....
