I am getting ready to put Mobile 1 5W50 in my GT500 tomorrow. I wanted an API approved oil with a robust additive package and from what I have seen from their PDS and from a VOA and UOA, their 5W50 offers all of the above. It also meets/exceeds ACEA A3/B3 and A3/B4 European standards for oil, which is tougher than API standards. I just sent in a virgin sample to get tested and will follow up with a UOA on the next oil change.

Everett, Chrysler engines are known to consume oil. I have a friend with a 2007 Jeep Wrangler V6, running Amsoil top tier synthetic. That engine must be burning it in the cylinder. I had to add more than a quart at the 4,000 mile mark. Not defending Mobil 1, but it's the nature of that engine to use oil, and not the oils fault.

Slamming M1 without first stopping to think = fail.
When it's not the engine consuming it, there are other factors.

The base stock plays a vital role on how much oil is lost during the change interval. Cheaper base stocks have higher % of NOACK volatility (evaporation/burn off). Lower NOACK % means lower/less loss.

NOACK volatility testing has confirmed the numbers below (on average)

group IV true synthetic base stocks = 5-8%

group III hydrocracked base stocks = 10-12%

group II dino/conventional base stocks = 13-15%

Since Mobil 1 relies more on group III than group IV, it will have more mass loss than a true group IV base stock lubricant. I will/can slam Mobile 1, but for other reasons that are much more valid.
