Oil Spattering Leak!
Hello everyone! I am new to the Forum, so let this serve as a temporary introduction until I have the time to post my real one.
I'm 17 years old and I own a 2002 Mustang GT that was previously owned for about 49,000 miles and is quite the problem child. It has had various... 'improvements' among other things added to it, and has served me (95%) well for the last year or so. I've put about 3,000 miles on it since I came into ownership. Rest assured, those were hard miles.
Down to brass tacks, I have a very worrying situation to contend with. I rolled the car out of the garage this morning only to reveal quite the spattering of what is almost certainly engine oil. I checked the oil levels at noon today, but the engine was still warm and the reading may have been inaccurate at 1/2 max. I have not been able to replicate this problem since, no matter how hard I push the motor. On the last cold start (86f ambient vs low 60s this morning) I had absolutely no leakage. It hasn't spilled a drop since, and that's almost more concerning than having a gusher because I have no idea where it came from.
HOWEVER: I do have a leaky power steering pump, but it has been behaving itself recently since I added a leak stopping chemical. I refilled it a month back, and the consistency of my power steering in action in addition to the consistency of the fluid on the ground tells me that I should probably look elsewhere.
I'm going to buy some engine degreaser and try to get to the bottom of this. If worst comes to worst, I might have to do the fluorescent oil additive/blacklight trick. Keep in mind that it has only been about 12 hours and it may be liable to leak tomorrow. I apologize if this is the wrong thread to post this in, I am still learning my way around.
